Greyhound Racing with Traprise

A perennial early season highlight at Limerick Greyhound Stadium, the first Saturday meeting of the year hosts the annual awards night on the Dock Road as the regular patronage celebrate the highest achievers of the year just passed.

Amidst a programme which consisted of ten sweepstake finals, it was a former winner of the private trainer award at Limerick who provided the local highlight of the evening when P.J Ryan’s Coosane Tom (Kinloch Brae/Devilsbit Rumble) justified last week’s confidence when duly obliging in the final of the Greene Meats A3 575 Yard Stake.

He had been forced to settle for second in a narrow semi-final defeat but he would gain due reward for his consistent profile when breaking smartly from a suitable Trap 3 berth, he contested the lead on the run to the first bend.

Turning upsides a rival to his inside, this leading pair would race as one to the back-straight before the Ryan charge forged his way to a one length lead approaching the halfway point. Gamely defending that advantage to the closing bends, he would further assert when reaching the home-straight with two lengths in hand over his closest pursuer. Staying the trip strongly, Coosane Tom registered the fifth win of his career when posting 32.05 in a two length verdict.

A wonderfully game stalwart of the Newport kennels, his 27 race career has seen him in the first three places in 22 of those outings while never failing to beat a rival home and allowed to race in the same A3 grade next time, his chances will again be obvious.
