Under 21's and Minors urged to aim high

Tipperary’s Under 21 winning hurling team of 2018 were urged not to settle for what they have achieved and kick on at senior level as they were presented with their All Ireland medals at a presentation function at the Anner Hotel, Thurles last Saturday night.

Manager Liam Cahill complimented the panel “who gave everything” he said in overcoming the adversity of the hammering in the Munster final by Cork to overturn that result in the All Ireland final which Cahill claimed “was the greatest ambush seen in Tipperary for a long long time.”

In a hugely passionate address, Cahill wished the players that are progressing to the senior panel well and he used the opportunity to reaffirm his own ambition of becoming senior manager one day after narrowly missing out on succeeding Michael Ryan saying: “I'd like to link up with this team again in the quest for the Liam MacCarthy Cup with many of the under 21 panel having now won All Ireland medals at minor and under 21 level under his watch.”

The Ballingarry club man also repeated comments he made at a similar event in 2016 when many of this current group of players were accepting their medals following their successful minor Munster and All Ireland campaigns that year. The minors who won the Munster championship in 2018 were also presented with their medals last Saturday night and Cahill used the opportunity to challenge that group of players, many of whom will be part of him under 20 panel over the next three years.

“I asked the question in 2016, have ye got what it takes to train on and I am asking that same question of the 2018 minors tonight. I welcome the minors into adult hurling and remind them now that the day of mammy and daddy no longer exists,” he said.
