Portumna and Sallypark cause upsets in Tipp Cup
By Padraig Ryan
Last weekend saw the Kevin Fogarty Tipperary Cup take centre stage and the only all Premier Division tie saw Portumna Town progress to the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Thurles Town.
Darragh Barry scored twice for Portumna before Malcolm Flannery made sure of the win with their third. Portumna will face Sallypark FC in the semi-final after the Latteragh side secured a 3-2 win at home to Shinrone United in their quarter final clash.
James Devaney gave Sallypark an early lead but Jason McCormack equalised for Shinrone before his side were reduced to ten men. Sallypark moved into a 3-1 lead after that with an Eoin Ryan penalty and a strike from Alvis Danko. Shinrone were then reduced to nine but halved the deficit to one with a second from McCormack but they couldn’t find the equaliser.
In the second round of the same competition, BT Harps bounced back from their disappointing FAI Junior Cup loss the previous weekend with a 5-1 win away to Ballymackey.
Jack Kennedy netted a brace for Harps who also had Johnny Coleman, Stefan Leahy and Martin Harty on the score-sheet while Ballymackey’s consolation came through Mark Carey.
