Tipperary go in search of their first points in division 1 of the National Camogie League when they travel to Wexford on Sunday for round three.
After a great showing in the opening round against Cork, where they suffered a late three point defeat, Tipperary went down by eight points to Galway in the round two but it must be said they were without many of their top performers because of injury.
Last season the group recorded just one win in the league and this was something that manager Bill Mullaney was hoping his charges might be able to improve on, so it’s vital that Tipp take the points on Sunday.
A late Wexford goal snatched victory from Tipp last season, but this year, Wexford have suffered a set back after set back with Martin Carey, one time Kilkenny goalkeeper and brother of hurling legend D.J. stepping aside after several players failed to show for round one game against Waterford where they lost by eight points.
With St. Martin's due to play Slaughtneil in the All Ireland club final on March 3rd, several of the players are unavailable to Wexford at the moment. They conceded a walkover to Cork in round 2 and scraped together thirteen players against Galway in round 3 but suffered a massive defeat, with the tribeswomen only playing thirteen players for the second period to balance the playing numbers.
All is not well in the Wexford camp but nevertheless, they could spring a surprise against Tipp who cannot take the outcome for granted as they go for their first win of the campaign. Also this weekend, Waterford host Galway.
