Hurricane set to sweep through Dundalk

The leading sprint event of the entire season, the 2019 Baroneracing.com Irish Sprint Cup commenced with twelve opening round heats last weekend as a field of Ireland’s fastest greyhounds prepared to do battle over a month of sizzling action at Dundalk.

Amidst these sprinting stars however, the name of Cabra Hurricane amongst the starting line-up adds much intrigue to this year’s renewal and the Greyhound Of The Year nominee for his exploits over four-bends, opened his account on Saturday with a stunning performance which confirms the Pat Guilfoyle trained star as a big outright fancy in this most prestigious event.

Drawn in an ideal Trap 1 for Heat 11 in the second session of the opening round, Cabra Hurricane (Kinloch Brae/Cabra Ebony) made his task a straightforward one when quick to stride for immediate control of the rails position on the run to the corner. Over two lengths to the good before turning, his ability to gallop bends at pace would see him stretch to his four and three quarter length winning margin before reaching the home-straight and he would complete victory over Brynoffa Joe in a fast 21.24 for the 400 yard trip.

That winning time was fastest of the Saturday heats in Cabra Hurricane’s debut at Dundalk and compares well with defending champion Ardnasool Jet who went fastest of all on Friday when posting 21.18. Putting further context on this opening effort, reigning Irish Derby Champion Ballyanne Sim led throughout his heat on Friday when posting 21.44.
