First parkrun in Cloughjordan this Saturday
The beautiful Knockanacree Woods near Cloughjordan is to become the venue for a weekly Parkrun.
Knockanacree Woods Parkrun launches its inaugural Parkrun event at 9.30am this Saturday, 23rd March. It is open to all and free to attend once participants are registered online at www.parkrun.ie and bring their personal barcode with them.
The Parkrun is open to all ages and abilities. Under 11s must be within arms reach of a supervising adults at all times and one dog, on a short lead, is permitted per participant. Participants are encouraged to visit the Middle Country Café on Main Street, Cloughjordan, after the event for refreahments and a chat.
"Parkrun is a great fit for Cloughjordan," says local physiotherapist and Event Director John Casey, who is among a group of people who have decided to start the event in the parish.
"We have a beautiful venue an active community and no shortage of volunteers to assist in running the weekly event. Funding the event has been facilitated by Parkrun Ireland, as well as the community through supporting a table quiz and we have received donations from local people and businesses."
The organisers hope that Parkrun will be a long-standing event that will promote community integration, physical and mental health, appreciation of our woodlands and tourism in the community.
