Glory Days beckon again for Tom Hogan after Limerick Success

Tom Hogan has enjoyed some stellar victories during his illustrious training career and in Aim For Glory, who landed the two mile maiden hurdle at Limerick on Saturday, he has a horse that looks destined for much better things.

Having caught the eye at the venue on his debut over the Christmas period, the Pour Moi gelding was unlucky to fall at the second last hurdle when well fancied at Gowran Park. There were no such errors this time as he was always close to the pace before hitting the front before the second last flight. At this point he was joined by Key Commander and the pair were well clear of the remainder when the latter crashed out at the final hurdle, leaving Aim For Glory to coast home by nine and a half lengths from Carnet De Stage.

Owned by Boston based Terry O'Reilly, who flew over for the race, and also landed some hefty wagers in the process. The trainer told me that he originally sold the winner to Thurles based Eddie Condon, who in turn passed him on to his present owner. He further reflected that he holds the horse in very regard but since he is still only a four years old and still green he will not rush him as he will retain his novice status until next December.

Tom also had good news about his globe trotting stable star Gordon Lord Byron who he described to be in great fettle and is rearing to go. He has had him away from home on a few occasions to sharpen him up so we can expect to see him back in action early in the upcoming flat season.
