Nenagh fall to Loughmore in league opener
The inclement weather took a big swipe to almost half of the games in the second round of the County Hurling League last weekend but a number of notable games did go ahead.
Division 1
In group 1, after their round 1 game against Clonoulty/Rossmore was rained off last week, Nenagh Eire Og finally got their campaign underway on Bank Holiday Monday at home to Loughmore/Castleiney but fell to a 1-18 to 1-15 defeat.
Nenagh started brightly and by the seventh minute they led 1-3 to 0-1 buoyed by a Michael Heffernan goal after great work by Paddy Murphy. They maintained their advantage and went into the half-time break leading 1-7 to 0-7.
Loughmore worked their way into the game throughout the second period and in the 36th minute Shane Hennessy struck a fine line ball and a brilliant Anthony Ryan connection saw the ball fly into the Nenagh net.
Nenagh suffered a further blow minutes later when Barry Heffernan was dismissed after picking up his second yellow card. Loughmore took full advantage of the spare man with Brian McGrath mopping up numerous Nenagh attacks as the Mid men held out for a deserved three-point victory.
On Sunday, Roscrea recorded a hugely impressive 2-21 to 0-11 win away in Toomevara.
