Sizzling sprinters continue to shine

Many of the most impressive performances on the local racing scene over past months have come on the sprint racing circuit and while trainer John Byrne may have resisted the lure of the Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk, a stunning performance from Knockalton Guy at Limerick on Saturday confirms this most consistent performer amongst the very elite in the sprint sphere.

A regular at Thurles, his attentions turned to Limerick for this fourth win from his last six outings and with the upcoming Treaty Cup surely in his sights, he laid down quite a marker when up to his very best form while dominating a high class field in his Open 350 yard contest.

Level away from Trap 3, the Eamon O’Brien & John Byrne owned speedster was much the quickest to stride when displaying superior early dash and he would immediately put the pace to the race when in command on the approach to the first turn.

A length to the good, he would forcefully sweep the bend before extending further clear to the home-straight and maintaining a powerful gallop to the line, registered an emphatic two and a half-length verdict over Tullig Irish in a very fast 18.77. Taking his win tally to double figures, Knockalton Guy (Cracking Man/Turbine Tulip) is as good as ever of late and an extension of his current purple patch is confidently expected over the coming weeks.
