Nenagh finish strongly to claim victory
Nenagh Eire Og 2-21
Upperchurch-Drombane 1-15
By James Hayden in Dolla
Nenagh Eire Og showed little hangover from last years county final defeat as they impressively accounted for Upperchurch-Drombane in the opening game of the County Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday afternoon.
A potential banana skin was in the offing here for a Nenagh side in transition this year, but they admirably and capably dealt with the Upperchurch challenge, running out deserved nine-point victors in a contest which offered much but delivered little in the way of teak-tough competitive hurling.
Nenagh had far too much nous and verve for an Upperchurch outfit that struggled at times to cope with the movement and pace of Eire Og’s attack. Marshalled by the excellent Darragh Quinn at centre-back and spearheaded in attack by the free-roving Jake Morris, Nenagh eventually wore down their opponents with an impressive second-half display.
