Roll Tiger Roll

Tiger Roll was the toast of much of North Tipperary last Saturday as the little horse with the big heart went into the history books, becoming only the fourth horse to win back-to-back Aintree Grand Nationals.

The nine-year-old became the first horse since the great Red Rum in 1973 & 1974 to retain the Aintree Grand National with a hugely impressive three length victory in the hands of jockey Davy Russell for trainer Gordon Elliott and owner Michael O'Leary of Gigginstown House.

It was also a special day for Portroe's Jerry O'Brien who bred the horse and was present at the Liverpool venue for the first time after being invited to attend by the chairperson of Aintree racecourse Rose Paterson.

“You couldn't even dream about it because it is nearly nigh on impossible,” Jerry said on his progeny winning the most famous national hunt race for a second time.
