20% of Tipp rates uncollected

Over 20% of commercial rates in Tipperary remained uncollected by the end of 2018.

The figure for temporarily uncollected/arrears carried forward stood at €7,826,363. A total of 1,599 accounts were in arrears. Arrears of approximately €884,587 were collected at February 27th 2019.

The council had total warranted rates of €38,905,430 last year. €26,133,099 of this was collected. The figure for bad debt write-offs stood at €486,979, while vacancy stroke-offs (including properties for letting and closed for refurbishment/repair) stood at €4,458,989.

The council has provided details of the 2019 Early Payment Scheme to ratepayers. A reduction of up to €300 may be applied to occupiers of commercial properties with total annual rates bills of up to €12,000, subject to the terms of the scheme. Registration forms should be submitted with payment by the dates outlined to avail of the scheme.

In 2018, 971 applications were processed under the scheme with €125,541 saved by ratepayers.
