HAP place-finder launched in Tipp
A new Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) place-finder scheme has been up and running in Tipperary since last month.
The scheme endeavours to find accommodation for people on the HAP list who are struggling to find it on their own. At the March meeting of Nenagh Municipal District, Cllr Séamus Morris (Ind) welcomed the place-finder, as he said many local people are finding it increasingly difficult to source accommodation.
Senior Housing Officer Sean Lonergan told the meeting that the HAP place-finder would help people in danger of becoming homeless. He stated that Tipperary had 1,779 active HAP tenancies and this is the highest number in the country outside the cities. Tipperary Co Council has been very successful in rolling out the HAP scheme and has continuously exceeded the targets set by the Dept of Housing. Mr Lonergan expected further success with the HAP place-finder scheme.
