Captain Sweeney not looking beyond Limerick

Waterford and Cork have tended to be Tipperary's Munster Championship foes in recent years so facing Limerick for the first time in five years has a novel feel to it according to Premier County skipper Conor Sweeney.

The 29-year-old will lead his county out in championship for the first time this Saturday in the hope of getting Tipperary football back on a positive footing after a difficult league campaign,

It wasn't the ideal campaign we wanted, relegation obviously wasn't in our plans, but that's sport. We just have to get on with it,” said the Ballyporeen native.

We haven't played Limerick since 2014, so for a lot of our squad it's the first time coming up against Limerick in either the league or championship, so for everyone it's a big game. At the end of the day it's Munster championship and we want to get off to a winning start.”

A 2016 All Star nominee, Sweeney is well aware that Tipperary will be expected to account for division 4 Limerick and set-up another Munster semi-final against Cork who have handed Tipp some costly defeats since their sole championship success in 2016.

We're the people listening to it the whole time that we're hot favourites to beat Limerick.
