Sheedy and Tipp ready to embrace championship challenge

Six months of work boils down to six weeks!

That's how Liam Sheedy will be looking at it over the next few days and they build-up to the start of another championship campaign.

While the Portroe man was at the helm in last years disappointing championship campaign which failed to yield a victory, he knows more than most that honeymoon periods don't last long in this county with supporters expecting, and almost demanding that Tipperary not suffer the ignominy of failing to progress beyond the group stage for a second year in a row.

And beating Cork in the first round next Sunday would go a long way to appeasing the masses.

“You cannot look beyond the first game in what is a very significant Munster championship,” said the Tipperary manager at the launch of the Munster Championship 2019 in Dungarvan last week.

“Tipp found themselves outside the top three last year and the margins were very tight. We drew two games and led all the way in the last game against Clare to the very death which would have seen them through.

“So, we realise the margins are tight but they are the championships you want to be involved in. When you go, you realise that you have to be at your best or you will find yourselves outside of the top three. That's the challenge me and Tipperary have to embrace over the next couple of weeks.”
