County Hurling Leagues taking shape

The fifth round of the County Hurling Leagues took place last weekend as clubs vie to get into contention places in the knockout stages in division 1 as well as promotion and relegation in divisions 2 to 5.

 

Division 1

Roscrea continue to set the pace in group 1 following a 1-24 to 1-14 victory over Killenaule at St. Cronan’s Park on Friday evening.

Roscrea opened brightly dominating most sectors to lead at the break 1-12 to 0-5, the goal coming from Luke Cashin with an excellent finish from an acute angle.

Killenaule reorganised at half time and were more effective in the second half with strong performances from Tony Doyle, Eoin Barry and Pat Kerwick who scored a fine goal. However Roscrea finished strongly to run out deserving winners. They were best served by Conor Bergin and Shane Davis in defence, Darren O’Connor in midfield and Luke Cashin in attack.

In Group 2, a depleted Borris-IIeigh suffered their first defeat of the campaign with a heavy 2-23 to 0-16 home loss to Thurles Sarsfields on Saturday.

Missing a large number of first team players through injury and county duties coupled with two or three in game injuries along with the concession of two soft goals made it a very tough evening for Borris who did have good displays from Seamus Bourke, Shane Kenny and Thomas Fahy.
