Tipp sit back as Munster rivals go at it

How quickly things can change in the space of twelve months!

This time last year, Tipperary were winless in the Munster Championship and devoid of any direction as they exited the competition at the group stage.

Well the initial objective of manager Liam Sheedy and his players for 2019 was achieved last Sunday as the win over Clare guaranteed that Tipperary will be one of the three teams to progress to the All Ireland Series in July.

However, a Munster Final berth hasn’t been confirmed as yet as should Cork and Limerick both win their remaining games, they can join Tipperary on six points, however with Tipperary’s score difference from the three games so far at an impressive +38, they have a massive advantage if it came down to deciding the final placings.

The picture should become a little clearer next weekend as Tipperary sit back on their bye weekend and let the other four counties battle it would in the penultimate round of group games.

What we do know for certain is that Waterford will be exiting at the group stage for the second year in a row and if there is a repeat of the manner of their losses to Tipperary, and particularly Limerick, Cork will be fancied to earn a big home win on Saturday evening.

The key game will be in LIT Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Sunday when the All Ireland champions welcome great rivals Clare.

Despite Clare coming in off a demoralising loss to Tipperary, it is Limerick that are in the most peril and should they lose and Cork defeat Waterford, the All Ireland champions reign would be over before they even come to Semple Stadium to face Tipperary on Sunday week.
