MUNSTER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Semple Stadium will be the focus of much attention on Sunday next, June 16th, when Tipperary play their last match in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship round robin series. The opposition for now doesn’t come any tougher, as the reigning All-Ireland champions Limerick will provide the sternest of tests on the Field of Legends. This too coming on the back of an impressive round 4 victory last Sunday for the Treaty men.
Tipperary, however, go into the match with great momentum also having three solid wins under their belt. Hopefully, another will follow on Sunday to confirm their place in the provincial decider.
There have been 69 previous championship meetings between Tipperary and Limerick. Tipperary have won 35 games to Limerick's 24 with 10 draws. Tipperary also received a walk over in 1899, and Limerick received a walk over in 1902.
The last ten meetings provide the following set of results - 2007 at the Gaelic Grounds, Tipperary 1-19 Limerick 1-19 (semi-final - draw); 2007 at Semple Stadium, Tipperary 2-21 Limerick 1-24 - (semi-final -1st replay & extra time); 2007 at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick 0-22 Tipperary 2-13 (semi-final – 2nd replay & extra time); 2009 at Croke Park, Tipperary 6-19 Limerick 2-7 (All Ireland semi-final); 2012 at Semple Stadium, Tipperary 2-20 Limerick 1-19 (quarter-final); 2013 at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick 1-18 Tipperary 1-15 (semi-final); 2014 at Semple Stadium, Limerick 2-18 Tipperary 2-16 (semi-final); 2015 at the Gaelic Grounds, Tipperary 4-23 Limerick 1-16 (semi-final); 2016 at Semple Stadium, Tipperary 3-12 Limerick 1-16 (semi-final) and last year 2018, at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick 1-23 Tipperary 2-14 (Round 1).
The anticipation is building ahead of this game where a crowd of between 30 and 35 thousand is expected. There is a sense of something special too stirring in the hearts and minds of Tipperary supporters. Flags and bunting are starting to fly prominently across the county in support of our men’s and ladies’ teams. The support wished for by the Tipperary senior hurling management early into their new term has come to fruition with supporters answering the call. That call will be felt loudest on Sunday when the team take to the field and feed on the support flowing from the stands.
We appeal to all supporters to get behind our Tipperary hurling, camogie and ladies’ football teams in significant numbers this weekend and roar on the Premier County with pride in all venues.
We send best wishes to the senior hurlers and management as they look to keep the winning run going, in what will be a huge test on Sunday, but who’d want it any other way?
The referee on Sunday will be Sean Cleere (Kilkenny).
ALL-IRELAND FOOTBALL QUALIFIERS
Commiserations to the Tipperary footballers as they bowed out of the All-Ireland championship following a 1-13 to 1-10 loss to Down last Sunday in round 1 of the qualifiers. When the draw was originally made a tricky assignment was always on the cards in Newry and though a slender lead at the break had Tipp in front, it wasn’t enough for the lads to hold out against second half Down pressure. Philip Austin (Borrisokane) was the provider of Tipp’s goal early in the first half.
Following the game, Liam Kearns announced that he was stepping down as manager. Liam has brought his team on an incredible journey during his four years in charge and his contribution to Tipperary football has been immense. There were a number of significant results and standout performances in that time including an All-Ireland semi-final appearance in 2016, which will certainly be a highlight, as was the Allianz League Division 3 win in 2017. Tipperary Co. Board and supporters thank Liam and his management personnel, since 2016, for the wonderful contribution given to football in Tipperary during his tenure and wish him continued success in the future.
We thank the panel of players especially too for their efforts and look forward to seeing them back in action again in the blue and gold.
MUNSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Best wishes to the Tipperary minors who play their Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship round 4 match on Sunday next against Limerick where throw-in is at 12noon. This will be the opening game of a double header between the counties and will provide Paul Collins’ side with the ideal opportunity to make amends for the recent loss to Clare. Still in with a chance of reaching the Munster final, they team know they will have to play to their very best to remain in the hunt for a chance of a final berth.
The referee for this match will be Thomas Walsh (Waterford).
ANDREW CORDEN CUP U20 FOOTBALL
Tipperary play Carlow in their third match in the Andrew Corden Cup this Wednesday, 12 June in Round 4 at home in Dr. Morris Park. The last match in the league phase is away to Wexford on Saturday 15 June 2019 in Round 5 in Bellefield, Enniscorthy at 1pm.
Tipperary’s first match in the EirGrid U20 Munster Championship will be on Tuesday 2 July in a quarter final clash against Limerick in Semple Stadium at 7pm.
CAMOGIE
There is an attractive double header in the Camogie Grounds, The Ragg, on Saturday next, June 15th, which is sure to bring a large crowd to the Mid Tipp venue as the Tipperary senior and intermediate teams head into action. First up at 3pm, the intermediate team host Down in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship. This will be followed up at 5pm when the seniors take on Waterford in the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship.

LADIES FOOTBALL
The attention on Sunday for all Tipperary ladies football supporters will be in Cappamore, Limerick as the intermediate team contest the TG4 Munster Intermediate Ladies Football Championship Final against Clare. Throw-in for this game is 12noon and we send best wishes to the team in the final.

CELTIC CHALLENGE
In their final game of the group stage of the Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge competition Tipperary Gold (West and South Tipperary) were defeated by one point by East Cork in Rathcormac last Wednesday night on a score line of East Cork 3-14 Tipperary Gold 1-19.
Following the grading and seeding process Tipperary Gold have been placed in Division 1 (Corn Michael Hogan) for the next phase of the competition. Their next match will be a Division 1 Quarter Final against North Cork which will take place this Saturday 15th June at a venue and time to be confirmed.
In Group A, Tipperary Blue (North and Mid Tipperary) were narrowly defeated 0-18 to 1-14 by Limerick Treaty.
POC FADA
Tipperary Poc Fada took place last Thursday by kind permission in Bike Park Ireland, Knockshegowna. Congratulations to senior winner Darren Cuddihy (Toomevara) and U16 winner Pat Ryan (Upperchurch-Drombane) as they now go forward to represent Tipperary in the Munster competition in Kerry. Well done to all competitors last week and to those from the Tipperary Coaching and Games Committee in organising the event.

This wonderful annual event was held in Cork and Kerry last weekend with children from across the country taking part including many teams from Tipperary of which there were two notable successes.
Congratulations to the Moycarkey-Borris camogie team which won the John West Division 4 Camogie Cup Final when they defeated Mallow 2-2 to 1-4 AET. Congratulations also to the Durlas Óg B team that won the Division 7 Hurling Shield final following their defeat of Carraig na bhFear 2-3 to 2-2.
CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL
Best wishes to all schools taking part in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol finals next Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18/19. Year on year this event goes from strength to strength and is thanks to the enormous efforts and dedication of so many including the Cumann na mBunscol committee and teachers of all primary schools across the county.

SYMPATHY
The last week saw the passing of two former Tipperary hurlers and we convey the sympathy of Tipperary Co. Board to the bereaved.
Johnny McGrath (Nenagh Éire Óg) won an All-Ireland SH medal in 1958 and a National League in 1955. He was also on the Nenagh Éire Óg teams that won the 1957 and 64 North Tipperary SH titles.
Jimmy Noonan (Knockshegowna) was on the Tipperary Intermediate Hurling that won the All-Ireland title in 1971. He was a stalwart of Knockshegowna GAA Club and played a major role in the development of the clubs’ pitch in Ballingarry village. May they rest in peace.
