Tipp hurling boss to attend World Elder Abuse Awareness event in Nenagh

Tipperary senior hurling
manager and the former
manager of the squad
Eamon O'Shea are among
the key speakers at an event
being held in Nenagh on
this Friday, June 14th, to
mark World Elder Abuse
Awareness Day.

The event, which will be
run under the theme "Open
your Eyes", is being staged
in the Scouts Hall from
1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Also addressing the event,
which incorporates afternoon
tea, a social and
information gathering, will
be Tim Hanly, the General
Manager of the National
Safegurding Office in the
HSE.

World Elder Abuse Awareness
Day promotes the
building of support for older
persons in society. This day
is a useful platform to provide
information on how
and where to access support
if people are concerned for
themselves or others.

The Nenagh event is being
held in conjunction with the
Safeguarding and Protection
team in the HSE who
say they are looking forward
to a postive afternoon of
information sharing, afternoon
tea, song and dance.

Professor Eamon O'Shea
himself wore the blue and
gold jersey for Tipperary,
managed the senior side,
and he is currently the inaugural
Director of the Irish
Centre for Social Gerontology
at the National University
of Ireland, Galway.

Liam Sheedy, also a former
Tipperary hurler, guided
the county's senior side to
All Ireland victory in 2010
and after a break is now
back managing the county
squad who have been blazing
a trail of victories in the
current provincial championship.
A tremendous motivator,
Sheedy's appearance,
and indeed that of the other
guests, is highly anticipated
at the Nenagh event this
Friday.

Everyone is welcome to
attend on the occasion and
encouraged to wear purple
to mark the day. There is no
charge.

The event is supported
by the HSE, National Safeguarding
Office and Safeguarding
Ireland, who are
promoters of the rights of
vulnerable adults.
