AIMS awards for Roscrea and Nenagh

Congratulations to Nenagh Choral Society and Roscrea Musical Society, both of whom were among the winners at the Association of Irish Musical Societies  (AIMS) National Awards in Killarney at the weekend.

Members of Nenagh Choral Society, which this year celebrated the 70th anniversary of its foundation, headed to Killarney with three nominations for the AIMS  awards ceremony. The NCS Youth Academy was nominated for two Society awards for their production of 'Hairspray' - Best Visual and Best Chorus - and the adult Society was nominated for Best Ensemble for ‘Raise Your Voice’ from their production of ‘Sister Act’. Committee member Patrick Kelly also travelled to Killarney with a nomination for best supporting actor for his role as ‘Fester’ with Ennis Musical Society, in which he received runner-up.

These were three prestigious award nominations for the Society, and NCS was honoured to return to Nenagh with the title of Winner for two.

Margaret McGee, Chairperson, represented the Society in collecting the winner's award for Best Visual for the Youth Academy production of 'Hairspray'. Stephanie Browne, who was choreographer for 'Sister Act', represented the Society in collecting the winner's award for Best Ensemble for 'Raise Your Voice'.
Colin Dillon, who played the role of Edna in 'Hairspray', represented the Society and Youth Academy in collecting the runner up trophy for Best Chorus.

The Nenagh Choral Society committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who had any part in the staging of these two shows for all your support and commitment. It is your continued support that allows us to bring shows of this calibre to the audiences of Nenagh.

No rest for NCS as they now swiftly move on to preparations for the next show season production. Information night for the Youth Academy (ages 14-18) show 'The Addams Family' will be held this Friday, June 21st, at 7.30pm in the Scouts Hall. Places will be limited; all are welcome. Please note that the AGM for current season members will be held this Thursday, June 20th, at 8pm in the Scouts Hall.

Well done also to Paul Spencer of Roscrea Musical Society, who won the Best Actor award in the Gilbert section at the ceremony in the INEC. Paul played the role of Henry Higgins in Roscrea Musical Society's production of 'My Fair Lady'.

Over 1,500 people could be heard over the Kerry mountains last weekend as the winners were announced in Killarney by MC Fergal D’Arcy.
