Celtic finding their groove to demolish Portumna
SOCCER: North Tipperary & District League Review
By Padraig Ryan
Nenagh Celtic continued their season revival with a comprehensive 5-0 win away to previously unbeaten Portumna Town on Saturday.
Celtic had secured an excellent 2-1 win against Killavilla the previous weekend to kick-start their season and have now made it two wins on the trot, staking their title credentials with this impressive victory.
The first half of this encounter was a cagey affair but Celtic struck on twenty minutes through Jamie Kelly to take a slender lead into the break. The second half continued in much the same vein with Szymon Popiela doubling Celtic’s lead from the spot on 70 minutes before a glut of goals in the last ten minutes embellished the score-line, with Popiela getting his second before Brian Mitchell and Peter Hynes rounded off a statement win for Henry Newman’s side.
Portumna Town had themselves enjoyed a productive start to the season but this defeat makes it two losses in a row and they will be looking to turn things around when they travel to Moneygall this weekend.
