Finn lands nice touch at Limerick

In a week when Tipperary face Limerick in the Munster Final, those looking for omens would no doubt be heartened by the fact Borrisokane trainer Jimmy Finn, son of the former Tipperary 'great' of the same name, landed a nice little touch at the Limerick meeting on Friday evening when Lleyton ran out a comfortable winner of the two mile and a furlong 57-80 handicap.

Twice a winner over hurdles, the Kalanisi gelding was still a maiden on the level in spite of turning in some decent performances. He must have been giving the right vibes at home as he was 5lb wrong in the handicap but this was offset by the 3lb claim of his rider Killian Leonard.

Slowly away, Lleyton was given plenty of time to find his feet by Leonard before moving him into contention leaving the back straight. At this point, long time leader Grey Water still held the call but when Leonard pressed the go button approaching the final furlong, his mount picked up well and settled the issue in a matter of strides. At the post the combination had four and threequarter lengths over Venezia with Grey Waters a neck further back in third place.

This was a pretty decisive display by the winner and while he will have to defy a penalty when he next appears on the flat he could still be ahead of the handicapper.
