Sheedy looking to repay those who helped make him
Working with a group of players that “transformed my life” was the key reason by Liam Sheedy came back as Tipperary manager.
There is a overused cliche that you should never go back to a previous job and certainly in the case of Michael 'Babs' Keatings two terms in charge of Tipperary, there is something in that.
However, the difference with Liam Sheedy is that he came back with a core group of key players that we still there when he abruptly left following the All Ireland success in 2010.
When Liam Sheedy took the job last October, six players remained in Seamus Callanan, Padraic Maher, Brendan Maher, Patrick Maher, Noel McGrath and Michael Cahill from the team that defeated Kilkenny on that glorious September day in 2010.
However, since then, he has been shorn two of them with Patrick Maher joining Michael Cahill with the curse of the cruciate knee injury but despite Tipperary's strong underage pedigree in recent years, the now four remaining players remain key cogs in the Premier County wheel.
“They transformed my life in 2010,” he admitted at the Munster Final media day last week.
“The younger guys I had in 2006 as minors probably have a few years left in their careers so if I didn't come back and join this group now I probably wouldn't get a chance to work with those players I worked with across 2008-2010 so if I could have found the time, if there was any group I owed it to they were really good to me previously.”
