Tipp's limitations were laid bare

 

We had a throwback to 1996 at the weekend with Limerick pummelling Tipperary and Wexford joining them in pole position for the All-Ireland series. What odds a repeat of that year’s final with those two counties too? Certainly it is now a real possibility, though by no means guaranteed. Limerick face the wait for the semi-final which appears to have troubled other Munster champions though you would think that the experience of the last twelve months will be invaluable to them in tackling the challenge. Their togetherness, belief and general good practices should ensure that they will hit the ground running again.

For Tipp it could have been much worse. The disjointed nature of the latter end of the game kept the score down as did some Limerick profligacy from long distance. The decision not to give John O'Dwyer the line for a spectacularly ill-judged pull also helped. When you consider what Pat Horgan saw red for at the same venue in 2013 the notion that this was a yellow card offence is hard to defend. The good news is that he will be available for the next day, and he will be needed, but the bad news is that such a wild act is still in his locker and needs to find its way to the bin.
