Fourteen man Lorrha added the County Hurling League Division 2 title to the promotion already earned when they defeated Clonakenny in a very exciting final last Sunday.

In a game of so many goal chances and great goalkeeping, Lorrha came out of this game with immense pride and a victory that saw them overcome a slow first quarter. Having a man sent off in the 26th minute want part of the plan but Cian Hogan’s goal helped them turn the half on a 1-7 to 0-9 half time lead.

Lorrha lost that lead in the early stages of the second half but remained in the shadow of the Mid men and using the direct route to goal they had the best paw on the day where full forward Willie Maher outclassed no less than Pa Ryan to goal twice in the 47th and 61st minutes and make the difference in the end.

Perhaps the direct route to goal was the best way because it allowed Lorrha to throw caution to the wind. They lost David Fogarty in the 26th minute to a red card offence and at the time it looked as if Clonakenny were going to be the masters as they had previously dominated the game in terms of scoring as four of the forward line had been successful in giving the midmen a 0-9 to 0-7 lead at the time of the dismissal.
