Gleeson heading for the Glens
Former Tipperary All Ireland senior hurling winning goalkeeper Darren Gleeson has been named as the new manager of the Antrim senior hurlers.
Gleeson, a two-time All-Ireland winner with Tipperary in 2010 and 2016, was part of the the Ulster sides management team this year alongside coach Neal Peden, who will step up assume the position as Antrim's first director of hurling.
After Antrim's campaign in the Joe MacDonagh Cup ended in June, Gleeson was drafted into the Tipperary set-up as goalkeeping coach, working under his fellow Portroe clubman Liam Sheedy as the Munster county reclaimed the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Sheedy previously had a consultancy role with the Saffrons in 2018.
Antrim will begin 2020 in the Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League ahead of their participation in the Joe McDonagh Cup along side Westmeath, Laois, Kerry, Meath and Carlow, the latter having ratified Tipperary's Colm Bonner to remain on as manager for a fourth year.
