Rowing record and World Golds for Moneygall's McDonald
Ken McDonald broke a world rowing record last month in Shannon Rowing Club, Limerick.
McDonald, a Limerick native who has been living in Moneygall for the last eleven years, broke the Lightweight 500 metre for 40-49 year olds the concept 2 rowing machine.
The previous record stood at 1min 23.4 seconds held by Dr. Gary Homann of the U.S.A which saw set in 2012 but Ken beat that time by rowing the distance in 1min 23.0 seconds.
This time is also the fastest time in Ireland ever to be officially recorded for 500m of any age category.
Ken used the record attempt to help him prepare for the World Masters Rowing Championships which were held on Lake Velence in Hungary last week where he won two gold medals in the Irish 8 man boat.
