Despite producing a very good opening half, a much fancied Borris-Ileigh side had to re-discover their form in the final ten minutes to secure a place in the County Minor 'B' Hurling final following an exciting semi-final against Killenaule last Saturday.

Two early goals helped the winners take a 2-5 to 0-2 led by the eighth minute, a lead that was reduced to six points by half time. However the North champions struggled in the third quarter and had their lead overturned by the 45th before they recovered their form.

While Borris-Ileigh’s better equipped forward line played a key role in the win, one has to acknowledge the part played by the defence where Jack McGrath played well both at left wing back and at full back when he moved there in the second half to keep an eye on Killenaule’s Mark Stakelum who was a major threat as the tall full forward had scored 1-5 from play before the Borris-Ileigh defender finally came to grips.

And while it was Borris-Ileigh who were the better teams we have to acknowledge the Killenaule, who struggled in the opening bouts, before rising to the task in the third quarter where Ciaran O’Dwyer and Jack Hassett were to the fore.
