A new All Ireland League season begins for Nenagh Ormond this weekend as they await the arrival of old rivals, Rainey Old Boys to New Ormond Park on Saturday afternoon.
After a turbulent end to last season in which Ormond just managed to cling onto their Division 2A status, the prospect of a new campaign breeds hope anew and Nenagh Ormond supporters and playing staff alike are ready for the challenges in the season ahead, according to the clubs Director of Rugby, John Long.
“Yeah, we’re very excited to get going again,” he gleefully remarked.
“There’s been great numbers out training in the last few months and with Ivan (Muldoon) back things are looking good heading into the first game.”
Long and the club in general have been busy, working behind the scenes to strengthening the squad ahead of the new season and they’ve certainly done that with numerous new faces bolstering the ranks, with Clayton Stewart returning after a stint with Young Munster, along with several familiar faces who have answered the call and returned to the club.
“Clayton coming back is a great addition, he left us last year and played in Limerick but he’s back and he’s a very welcomed recruit for the squad,” Long added.
“We have Keith Quigley back after being away for a year due to work commitments, and my own brother Alan came back to us after living in Cork for several years.”
