Logan stakes big claim for Shelbourne 600 success

TRAPRISE

Following a short layoff in the wake of Corn Cuchulainn victory in early August, Pat Guilfoyle’s kennel superstar Skywalker Logan is firmly back on the trail of major sweepstake success at Shelbourne Park and progressing from his opening round second in the Greyhoundsaspets.ie Open 600 Yard Stake, the unique talent was back to winning ways in a brilliant semi success on Saturday.

Chasing home Herecomesdahoney a week earlier, Logan would reverse that form when swifter to stride from Trap 4 this time and gamely defending a lead to the first bend, swept to a two-length advantage at the top of the home-straight. Pursued by a trio of Graham Holland runners to the closing bends, the Guilfoyle star was never for passing and held that same two-length margin at the line when repelling Lenson Blinder in a fast 32.23 (+10).

The opposing semi-final was won by Lemon Ozzy in 32.19 (+10) so clearly this coming Saturday’s showdown will be a tight affair but a repeat draw in the black jacket, on the inside of Lenson Blinder, appears highly suitable and another adept break from Skywalker Logan (Tarsna Havana/Sizling Sarah) can suffice for victory.

Such is the respect for the early paced prowess of Grangeview Ten, the Michael Hogan star was priced at just 5/2 in the outright market ahead of the second round in the 2019 Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park in Cork but the 525-yard classic is far more competitive than the market suggests and the Pat Guilfoye trained star was made to settle for second place on Saturday.
