Killavilla United welcomed Dunmanway Town to Roscrea on Sunday for the first round of the Munster Champions Cup but fell to a 3-2 loss to the West Cork League champions.

This competition features the reigning champions of all the Munster Junior leagues facing off in a knockout tournament and there is no such thing as an easy opening round and so it proved in Villa Park on Sunday with the two sides closely matched throughout and Villa will really feel that they left this game behind them.

Paul Kirwan and Paraic Phelan were on the scoresheet for United but the Roscrea side missed a series of chances at 2-2 to win the game, hitting the post on three separate occasions, and they were to rue those opportunities when Dunmanway grabbed the winner in the dying moments of the game. A heart-breaking finale for David Nash’s side who’s attention now will turn to a big league finish as they look to rein in Nenagh Celtic and retain their league title.
