MUNSTER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Best wishes to three Tipperary clubs in Munster club action this weekend. In the main event, Borris-Ileigh prepare for their AIB Munster Senior Club Hurling Final clash with Ballygunner (Waterford) on Sunday next, November 24th in Páirc UÍ Rinn. While on Saturday next, November 23rd, Carrick Davins make the short trip to Clonmel Sportsfield to take on St. Marys (Waterford) in the AIB Munster Junior Club Hurling Semi-final at 1pm. The winners will play Russell Rovers (Cork) in the final on December 8th in Mallow.

Also, on Saturday, Mullinahone will take on Croom (Limerick) in the AIB Munster Junior Club Football Semi-final at 1pm in Templetuohy.

Congratulations to Clonmel Commercials as they qualified for the AIB Munster Senior Club Football Final on Sunday week, following their 0-9 to 0-7 defeat of St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay in the semi-final on Sunday last. This win sets them up for a rematch of the 2015 Munster decider against Nemo Rangers (Cork), which Commercials won in dramatic fashion.

Elsewhere, in the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Football semi-final, commiserations to Moycarkey-Borris as their journey ended following a 0-12 to 0-5 defeat to St. Breckans (Clare).

REFEREE

Best wishes to Tipperary referee, John McCormack (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) as he takes charge of the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Final on Sunday next in Fraher Field between Fr. O’Neills (Cork) and Ballysaggart (Waterford).

Well done to David Grogan as he refereed the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Football quarter-final last Saturday between Ballyduff Lower (Waterford) and Croom (Limerick).

NEW YORK CLASSIC

Tipperary lost out to Kilkenny in the ‘New York Classic’ semi-final at Citi Field last weekend. In the other semi-final, Limerick got the better of Wexford to set up a final against Kilkenny, with ‘the Cat’s’ claiming the honours after the day’s play.

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL

Congratulations to Aishling Moloney (Cahir) on being named the 2019 TG4 Intermediate Players Player of the Year at the All-Star banquet last weekend.

2019 LAOCHRA GAEL AWARDS

The 2019 Tipperary Laochra Gael Awards will be presented next Sunday, November 24th in The Dome, Semple Stadium. Assembly from 3.15pm for refreshments and chat in the Dome, Semple Stadium with the official awards ceremony commencing at 4.30pm.

The award is in recognition of outstanding service to the Gaelic Athletic Association during the recipient’s lifetime, whether as a player, official, mentor or club volunteer. It says thank you for a life of volunteerism and service to your club, parish or county.

The Guest of Honour on the occasion will be Louis Fitzgerald, the successful Dublin businessman, who is a native of Cappawhite. His two great passions are Tipperary and hurling and he has always supported Tipperary G.A.A. over the years.

Congratulations to Comeragh College who were crowned Munster U16.5E hurling champions following their 5-9 to 1-5 victory over Carrigtwohill Community College last week.

Round 3 of the Dr. Harty Cup takes place this Wednesday, November 20th, where Thurles CBS and Nenagh CBS meet in the Ragg at 1:30pm in Group A.

In Group C, Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore take on St. Francis College Rochestown also at 1:30pm in Bansha.

In the Corn Uí Mhuiri Group B, High School Clonmel were defeated by P.S. Rathmore last week on a 1-11 to 0-7 score-line.

BRINGING BACK LIAM’ BOOK LAUNCH

A new book, entitled Bringing Back Liam, charting the return of Liam Sheedy and the Liam MacCarthy Cup to Tipperary, will be launched in MIC St Patrick's College, Thurles on Sunday next November 24th at 7:00pm to which all Tipperary hurling enthusiasts are invited.

Penned by Tipperary Star journalist Noel Dundon, the book will be launched by senior hurling coach and former All-Ireland winning captain Tommy Dunne, while a panel discussion on the year just gone and the season to come will feature Brendan Maher, Conor Stakelum, Eamon Corcoran and Len Gaynor.

It promises to be a great night and refreshments will be served at the conclusion. The book retails at €14.99 and proceeds will go towards the team fund and local charities and organisations.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. This is the most common cancer worldwide, affecting millions of people every year. Smoking is linked to about 80% of lung cancer deaths; quitting smoking at any stage can greatly reduce the risk of lung cancer.

These statistics should encourage clubs if they have not already done so to consider acting on ‘No Smoking Initiatives’ on their premises and grounds in 2020.

The long dark evenings and cold weather has arrived please remember a phone call or a visit to neighbours living alone will always be appreciate.

ANNUAL GAA MEMORABILIA FAIR IN THURLES

Lár na Páirce, the GAA Museum in Thurles, will hold a GAA Memorabilia Fair in Thurles Sarsfields Social Centre, (beside Semple Stadium) on Sunday next, November 24th from 12pm to 4.00pm.

This is the 6th annual G.A.A. Memorabilia Fair and will give customers a chance to browse and search a large selection of match programmes, club histories, hurling, football, camogie and handball publications as well as other G.A.A. material in the pleasant and spacious surroundings of the Thurles Sarsfields G.A.A. Centre, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Collectors and sellers are cordially invited to attend this event, where it is hoped they will find plenty of material to interest them.

Stands will be available for renting and anybody so interested should contact the organisers before November 23rd.

Admission will be €3 with accompanied children free. The venue will have disabled access, bar facilities and teas and coffees. It is located within a five-minute walk from Thurles Railway Station.

Reminding all clubs and cultural groups that the final of Scór na nÓg will take place in Holycross Community Hall on Sunday December 1st, at 2pm. PRIMARY SCHOOLS TABLE QUIZ

The annual Primary Schools Table Quiz County Final will be held in the Sarsfields Centre, Thurles on Sunday 1st December at 6.00 pm.

Each division is asked to hold their own quiz and select 5 teams of 4 primary school students to go forward to the county final.

Applications for the 2019 MacNamee Awards are now being accepted. It should be noted that only work published or completed in the 2019 calendar year is eligible for consideration and entries will not be returned. The awards scheme will be judged under the following headings:
