Ger Maher with his brilliant brace of winners at Nenagh Coursing meeting, Blazing Kathy and Blazing View.

Blazing a trail to Nenagh Coursing double

COURSING

Dry and bright weather over last weekend provided for ideal conditions as Nenagh Coursing Club presented a simply brilliant renewal of their annual meeting in front of record crowds over three wonderful days of racing action in Carhue, Ballycommon.

In the second week of the new season, the meeting provided an early opportunity for local pups to gain entry to the classics at the National Meeting but amidst a host of promising performances, it was the ownership combination of Ger "Red" Maher & Darren Lee who stole the limelight as their Blazing View (Vale View Flyer/Areyoureadynow) qualified for the Derby as part of a remarkable double for the local connections.

Contesting the Nenagh Derby Trial Stake, Blazing View immediately signalled his abilities with a brace of smart performances on Saturday to advance to Sunday's semi-final where he accounted for the well fancied Soul Music in hugely impressive fashion. A resolute battling quality saw him too strong in the latter half of the course after the duo had raced in tight quarters to halfway.

Again tested in the early stages of the final, Blazing View held his form brilliantly in testing ground when again displaying his strength to forge clear beyond halfway, holding two lengths in hand over Dapper Jake for Sixmilebridge trainer Stephen Murray. It's early stages of the season but Blazing View looked a likely winner of the Trial Stake from the very outset and the manner of victory suggests that connections may have a live Derby hope come the Clonmel festival!

Just minutes after Trial Stake success, the kennels were celebrating again when Blazing Kathy (Adios Alonso/Inslips All In) completed a dominant passage through the Carrow All Aged Bitch Stake in just her second public appearance.
