BT Harps complete Under 19 League and Cup double

SOCCER: Noerth Tipperary & District League – Under 19 Cup Final

Arra Rovers 0

BT Harps claimed the NT&DL Under 19 Cup on Sunday with victory over Arra Rovers in the final in Moneygall.

The Templemore side were the favourites coming into this game after winning the league with maximum points, ten wins from ten games, but Arra Rovers had been their nearest challengers throughout the season and there was very little between the teams in their league encounters.

The preparations of both sides were hampered in the build-up with Harps losing James Corcoran and star striker Ben Stapleton to injury while Rovers were depleted even further with three first team players out injured. AJ Willis, the hero for the junior side the previous weekend with two stunning goals in the Nora Kennedy Cup final, was only fit to play in goal in what was a huge blow to Robbie Creamer’s young side.

Harps started the game strongly and took the lead in the opening minutes when centre back Lorcan Roche headed home a Nick Keane corner. A huge blow for Arra to concede so early and one which they never quite recovered from.

BT were on top for the remainder of the half and doubled their lead before the break. A soft free was awarded to Harps and again Nick Keane put the ball in a dangerous area where the unmarked Lorcan Roche headed home his second.
