Count on Daisy to double up at Galway

TRAPRISE

Having generously sponsored the Rafferty Kennels A2 550 Yard Stake at Galway, the Ballingarry kennels were somewhat more miserly when in the throws of competition and having gained semi-final victory in hugely game fashion a week ago, Michael Rafferty’s Moanduff Daisy retained the sponsors money in another laudable battling display.

A January 2018 pup, Moanduff Daisy has shown repeated promise in her career start and went to Trap 5 a 6/4 favourite for Friday’s final. Breaking on terms, she would contest the lead in the early strides before arriving to the first bend on the outside of a line of four runners. Gamely holding her pitch despite racing with company on her inside upon turning, she would follow an early paced rival to the back-straight and looked a menacing threat despite ceding two lengths while charting a wider path. Keen pursuit to halfway still saw the Rafferty charge with two lengths to recover but she would began to reduce those arrears approaching the closing bends and ranging up on the outside of the leader, she would challenge for the lead once again when turning for home. Fully seeing out the extended four-bend trip, Moanduff Daisy (Laughil Duke/Miss July) would stay every yard in the home-straight and one final lunge for the line saw her strike the front in thrilling fashion for a one length verdict in 30.70 (-20).

A fourth career success, she can hold strong claims in the same A2 grade, wherever she appears next time.
