David Power reveals football plans for 2020
By Shane Brophy
Tipperary senior football manager David Power has laid out his stall for the coming year.
Speaking to delegates at last Thursday Football Committee AGM in Thurles, he set a modest target of retaining their division 3 status in the National Football League for 2020.
“It's going to take a bit of time,” he said of the challenge ahead of him to turn the ship around following a disappointing 2019 campaign in Liam Kearns' fourth and final year in charge.
“There is a tough league ahead of us. The four toughest games are the first four, at home to Down, away to Louth and Derry and then home to Cork.
“My first goal is making sure we survive in division 3 and the first four games are going to distate that.
“We need to stop losing games and then, over time, introduce some new players.”
With Michael Quinlivan having opted off the panel for the coming year, Power wasn't feeling sorry for himself losing one of his key players because it an issue in every county he said.
“The one thing I can guarantee is we are going to have a fit and strong team that is going to do everything possible,” he added, revealing over 60 players had been trailed over the last two months with both the seniors and under 20's training together.
“This week alone, we are going three field sessions and two gym sessions. On a Wednesday night, Paddy Christie takes the ten Dublin based players for a pitch session there with Michael McGeehin taking the session in Thurles."
