Lowry tops poll to claim first Tipp seat

For the sixth successive General Election, Michael Lowry has topped the poll in Tipperary and has won the first seat in this five-seat constituency. Deputy Lowry enjoyed 14,802 first preference votes and easily passed the quota of 13,632.

Martin Browne of Sinn Fein is edging nearer a seat and currently stands on 10,004 votes with Mattie McGrath on 9,321. The other candidates are:

Four more seats have to be filled and it's hoped a further count or two will take place this evening before the Returning Officer makes a decision on temporarily suspending the count before resuming on Monday morning.
