Tipperary finally began their All-Ireland Minor 'A' Camogie Championship campaign on Sunday, dispatching Wexford in a resolute display which showed little evidence of the lack of sharpness one might anticipate following two postponed fixtures over previous weekends.

By contrast, this was Wexford’s third outing in Group 2, having already lost to Waterford and overcome Laois, but they found themselves overpowered by a Tipp side which looked visibly hungry for action.

Both teams’ appetites would have been tested by the torrential rain shower which fell right on the brink of throw-in but they were forced to endure similar downpours at various stages over the course of the 60 plus minutes, and although the players handled the conditions well, the pitch didn’t.

Given that it was an afternoon more suited to defensive grit than flashy forward-play, Tipp’s front-six were noticeably clinical, managing to create scores through a combination of clever movement and tireless workrate.

They didn’t waste time either. Jill Anne Quirke sent Laura Lennane through for her first point after two minutes, and ninety seconds later Lennane also had a goal to her name, gathering the sliotar near the end-line, turning and driving the finish past Wexford keeper Eimear Goland.
