Camogie and LGFA to follow same roadmap

Tipperary Camogie and Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Associations will follow the same road-map as the GAA as they look to get back on the field in the coming weeks and months.

Both organisations were represented on the GAA’s Covid-19 Advisory Group which published its Safe Return to Play document last Friday.

As things stand, camogie and ladies football teams cannot return to training until June 29th on GAA properties which remain closed.

“We are going to have a lot to do in terms of safety guidelines, all of that will have to be adhered to,” admitted Tipperary Camogie Board chairperson Denis Lenihan.
“It will mean more work for clubs but clubs are looking forward to it and no matter what is asked everyone is willing to row in and get behind it.”

The Camogie Association will announce its strategy for the return of competitions next week, from which Tipperary will follow in terms of putting a competition structure in place at adult level to fit into the eleven week window as laid out, however, Denis Lenihan is confident they can do so.

“As competitions go, all our championship fixtures didn’t start until August anyway.
“If we can get back and the weather holds as well, there should be no issue with the eleven weekends,” he said.

In recent years, the senior, intermediate and junior championships take no more than five to six rounds, up to and including the final, however with dual clubs to be accommodated for ladies football, both local organisations will have to work together admitted the Tipperary camogie chief.

“We will work with the Tipp LGFA as best we can to try and get clubs playing on separate weekends and different age groups over different weekends. All this has to be looked at and we will work with everyone as best we can,” said Denis Lenihan.
