Nenagh and Newport off to high scoring starts
Nenagh AFC got off to a winning start in the Limerick District Premier League last Thursday with a 4-0 away win over Kilmallock.

On Sunday, Nenagh hosted Munster Junior Cup champions Aisling Annacotty in Brickfields and were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat with Aaron Murphy’s terrific late strike claiming all three points or the visitors.

On Wednesday evening, they recorded an emphatic 10-0 win at home to a Hill Celtic side that are currently in transition. Youth player, Daniel Egan, on his ‘A’ team debut, capped off an impressive display by netting a hat-trick. The other scorers were Brian O'Sullivan (2), Kev Connolly, Christy O'Connor, Colin Coleman, Kevin Doyle & Andy Murphy.
On Sunday afternoon, they played out a nail-biting, roller-coaster of a game away to Fairview Rangers ‘B’, when coming from 4-1 down after 20 minutes to eventually run out 6-5 winners with Elliott Slattery scoring the winner with eleven minutes remaining.
This was one of those crazy games that frustrate managers but keep supporters entertained. Despite going behind early in the game, drawing level at 4-4, then going 4-5 down, the lads showed great character & resilience to grind out the win and make it two from two. The other Newport scorers were Brian O’Sullivan (2), Ben Coleman, Kev Connolly & Davy Ryan.

A youthful Newport Town ‘B’ team kept a clean sheet on Saturday evening in an entertaining and hard-fought scoreless draw at home to Aisling Annacotty ‘C’ in Derryleigh Park. Newport created lots of chances but were unlucky not to find the back of the net in a game that on another night, they might have won.

Nenagh AFC ‘B’ played their first game of the season last Tuesday against Shelbourne ‘B’ and won 4-1 with Devlin Courtney (2), Archie Mitchell and Anton Provotorov on target.

Newport Town had to battle hard to secure an excellent 3-2 win away from home against a physical Herbertstown side. Adam McEvoy scored two, with Diarmuid O’Riordan also on the scoresheet.
