Nenagh AFC held at home by Geraldine's
SOCCER: Limerick District League Review
Nenagh AFC let slip a golden opportunity of a second victory in the Limerick District League Premier Division after being held to a 3-3 draw at home to second from bottom Geraldine’s on Sunday.
Nenagh raced into a 3-0 lead with two goals from Nathan Kelly and a superb Danny Butler free kick but the visitors scored three after the break to earn a share of the spoils.
Nenagh were delighted to see Michael O’Gorman play the whole 90 minutes as he returns to competitive football after a serious injury.
Premier ‘A’ League
Newport Town side suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aisling Annacotty ‘B’ on Sunday. The visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a counter-attack but youngster, Ben Coleman was coolness personified when he slotted home from close range in the 27th minute to draw Newport level. It was 1-1 at half time and Newport seemed to have things under control.
It was Aisling who again scored in the 60th minute to lead 2-1. Christy Doyle was introduced in the 70th minute and it was great to see him back in action after a lengthy lay-off. Within a couple of minutes, he was proving a handful and was very unlucky with three great chances, all within a few minutes of each other. Newport pressed hard for an equaliser and the crossbar came to Aisling’s rescue on three separate occasions. Try as they might, Newport couldn’t find a second goal and will see this as three points dropped.
Division 1B
Newport Town ‘B’ had a win and a loss during the past week.
On Tuesday, they travelled to Charleville and Youth player Jay Ryan, scored a header in the last minute of injury time to seal a great 3-2 win. Kalem Harte continued his recent run of good form with another two goals.
On Sunday, Newport welcomed promotion favourites, Regional United ‘B’ to Derryleigh. It was scoreless at half-time, but the visitors scored twice in the opening ten minutes of the second half to give Newport a hill to climb. They responded well and began to take the game to Regional and worked a well-deserved goal by Colin Coleman to close the gap. Kalem Harte was unlucky when his header was expertly touched onto the crossbar by the keeper. Newport just couldn’t find an equaliser and the city side were mightily relieved to hear the final whistle.
Division 3A
Nenagh AFC ‘B’ continued their winning ways last Sunday with a fine 7-0 win away to Dromore Celtic. Archie Mitchel and Marcin Kolkowski both scored a brace with Devlin Courtney, Martin Mahony and Anton Provotorov also getting on the scoresheet. Newport Town ‘C’ lost 2-1 to Shelbourne ‘B’ on Sunday. Stephen Carroll scored the Newport goal.
Youths
Newport Town Under 18s recorded a 6-0 win away to Mungret Regional on Sunday. Luke Ryan with a hat-trick, Jay Ryan, Daniel Egan and Diarmuid O’Riordan were the scorers.
