Nenagh falter in second half to Pike
SOCCER: Limerick District League Review
Nenagh AFC fell to their fourth defeat of the season as they suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Pike Rovers in the premier division on Sunday.
Cillian Fitzpatrick’s charges proved a stubborn bunch and held the Hoops scoreless at the break. The introduction of Colin Daly and Eoin Hanrahan gave Pike the bump they were lacking in the opening half. A brace from Kieran Hanlon killed off the tie before Eoin Hanrahan and Steve McGann tacked on later goals.
Premier ‘A’ League
Newport Town fought back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw, at home to in-form Holycross on Sunday.
The point was earned thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Jay Ryan. Christy Doyle was the other scorer. This result leaves Newport in joint second, four points behind leaders, Athlunkard, who are next week’s opponents.
Open Cup
Nenagh AFC ‘B’ defeated Northside in a penalty shootout to advance to the third round of the Open Cup. Archie Mitchell was again on target for Nenagh as they finished 1-1 before claiming victory 4-1 in the shootout.
Newport Town ‘C’ were at home to Caherconlish in the second round of the Open Cup on Sunday against a team two divisions above them in the Limerick League.
In the end the gap between the two sides was too much for the lads and it was Caherconlish who advance to the next round on a 4-1 scoreline. Ciarán Braddick was the Newport scorer.
