Concerns over use of jet-skis on Lough Derg

Nenagh Municipal District is to meet with Waterways Ireland over a number of issues on Lough Derg.

At the recent district meeting, Cllr Phyll Bugler said she wants to discuss the use of jet-skis on the lake, as well parking at the slipway in Ballina, where Cllr Bugler said emergency services have been impeded in recent times.

Cllr Joe Hannigan said Dromineer and other lakeside villages were “overwhelmed” with visitors last summer and this is something that should be raised with Waterways Ireland. Director Marcus O'Connor said boat users “hogging” berths in local harbours is also on the agenda.

The meeting would focus on plans for the lakeside amenity areas going forward, he said.
