Student Council Training: This year's newly appointed Student Council was elected via an online voting system. Their first role was to help organise the annual Trick or Treat for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. An amazing €945.35 was raised by the whole school. On Tuesday, December 1st, the team received two hours online training from Rob O’Donnell from the Irish Secondary-Level Students Union (ISSU). Rob covered topics such as the history of the Student Council in Irish Secondary schools, the role and benefits of having a Student Council and the different roles within the Student Council. During this training the Student Council representatives were also given the opportunity using an online system to brainstorm and develop their ideas to bring forward to school management. Student Voice is valued in Borrisokane Community College, opportunistic training days like these are very important in sharing knowledge and knowing how to apply it but also the students further develop their interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.
Novas Sleepout: On Friday, December 18th, over 100 students from Borrisokane Community College will give up their beds for one night in aid of Novas. Students will sleep at home, in their garden or on their living room floor, giving up their everyday comforts as a mark of solidarity with those facing homelessness in our community. All funds raised will go to the Tipperary branch of Novas, helping to make a difference to the lives of some of society's most marginalised individuals and families.
Home Economics Week: Last week at Borrisokane Community College, spirits were high and delicious aromas drifted through the school as we celebrated Home Economics week. Students who don’t study the subject were also asked to participate and share their favourite family recipes. Overall, it was a very successful week and was enjoyed thoroughly by staff and students.
