Nenagh’s Jimmy Minogue to handle new fixtures era
By Shane Brophy
The man tasked with putting together a first fixtures plan that will incorporate the split season in the GAA will be Nenagh Eire Og’s Jimmy Minogue after he was elected vice-chairperson of Tipperary County Board at Convention last week.
Vice-chairperson comes with the role of chairperson of the Tipperary competitions controls committee (CCC) who will oversee the planning for the new club calendar which will see the club championships start in late July, although, there are likely to be secondary competitions in place in the first half of the year.
Minogue, who was beaten by just three votes in the vote for vice-chairperson in 2017, was successful on this occasion, beating former Coiste na nOg chairperson and current Coaching officer Tom Dawson 157 votes to 84.
“I fully realise the honour it is for my club, my family, my friends, and the people of Nenagh,” Minogue said.
“Going forward I’d like it to be known I’d like to be a vice-chairman for all the clubs and all the people of Tipperary.”
Jimmy Minogue is a former chairperson of the North Tipperary GAA Board from 2003-2005 and following that was Development Officer and Munster Council representative in two five year terms with Tipperary County Board so is well versed with the workings of the association.
There were two other contests for positions at convention, firstly, John Donovan (Thurles Gaels) defeated Michael Devlin (Eire Og Annacarty) 127 to 113 for the role of assistant treasurer while Loughmore/Castleiney’s Jonathan Cullen won a four-way battle for PRO, defeating Michael McCarthy (Cappawhite) 120 to 113 on the final count, after the elimination of Lisa Stapleton (Boherlahan-Dualla) 41 votes, and Enda O’Sullivan (Nenagh Eire Og) 67 votes, on the first and second counts respectively.
