Local Golf Clubs secure Resilience Funding

Eleven Tipperary golf clubs have secured much needed funds from Golf Ireland’s Club Resilience Fund.

The Fund totaling €2.8m was aimed to provide short-term financial help to golf clubs, with clubs invited to apply for grants up to €25,000. In total, 145 clubs applied with Nenagh, Portumna and Cahir Park securing the maximum amount of €25,000. The remaining amounts allocated were: Birr - €12,400; Carrick-on-Suir - €15,950; Clonmel - €23,500; East Clare - €15,950; Roscrea - €24,750; Templemore - €15,950; Thurles - €12,400; Tipperary - €15,950.

Delivered by Sport Ireland, the Club Resilience Fund aims to provide short-term financial help to golf clubs, support business resilience and future sustainability post COVID-19. Some of the areas in which clubs could consider applying include sustainability, service improvement, training and education for staff and/or volunteers, programmes for vulnerable and under-represented groups to engage them in golf, modification of facilities and ways to reduce costs. Clubs were, however encouraged to apply for other ventures which fall within the terms of the funding rules.

Many golf clubs have suffered a losses in revenue because of the pandemic and Golf Ireland is committed to supporting clubs in every way possible. This is a substantial allocation for golf, and it underlines the important role of golf in the sporting landscape.
