Tree of Hope planted in Town Park

The committee members of Darkness into Light Nenagh organised the planting of a tree in Nenagh Town Park..

The tree, which was provided by Pieta House, is part of the committee’s ongoing campaign in the community to raise awareness of mental health.

The Tree of Hope and Remembrance is symbolic to all those who battle with mental health in their lives. As many know, during a personal crisis people can go through difficult periods of time, very much like our community tree during the winter months when it sheds its leaves. But there is always hope and seeing the tree blossom in the spring represents new beginnings and the positivity that life can bring.

The tree is also a symbol of remembrance for all those who have lost the battle against mental health. And for those who are left behind, this tree is a mark of remembrance for your loved ones.

Pieta House has seen a sharp rise in those seeking their help in recent times. This is due partly to Covid-19 which has caused an increase in social isolation, particularly for those living on their own. Domestic violence has increased and some people have been under serious financial pressures due to the changes brought about by the pandemic.

However, the services provided by Pieta House have remained the same and they are on hand 24/7 for those who might need to avail of these services.

Brendan Murphy the Chairman of Darkness Into Light in Nenagh, said: " 'Your current situation is not your final destination': this is a quote that has stuck in my head and one to really take on board for those who might be going through a particularly hard time. On behalf of the Darkness Into Light team and Pieta House we would like to thank Tipperary County Council for their support and help to make this community project happen."

If you or someone you know is in crisis and might need to talk to someone you can call Pieta House 24/7 crisis Helpline on 1800 247247 or text HELP to 51444.
