Covid won’t stop the Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards

By Shane Brophy (Sports Editor)

For almost every aspect of life over the past twelve months, we have had to change how we go about things. Whether we ever get back to what we were used to before March 2020, we can only hope but for the moment we must go within the confines of the Covid restrictions.

And for us in the Nenagh Guardian, we weren’t going to let Covid-19 stop us from honouring our sporting stars of 2020, who, for a brief period, provided a much-needed distraction from the turmoil that was around us.

For the previous six years, we have held an annual Sports Awards Gala presentation to honour the sporting successes of our local heroes in the previous twelve months.

For obvious reasons, we couldn’t hold that Gala event in January this year as usual, but we felt it was important that the sporting success stories from 2020 were not properly acknowledged, just because they were unfortunate to be successful during the year of a worldwide pandemic.

So, with the help of Lyons of Nenagh, who have been superb sponsors of this event for the past three years, we will host the 2020 Sports Awards in an alternative format next week, with a special pull-out supplement in the Nenagh Guardian.

Last week, in a safe and socially distanced manner, we presented the 2020 Sports Awards to the twelve-monthly winners, along with a hamper provided by Lyons of Nenagh.

To see who the winners are, make sure you pick up a copy of next weeks Nenagh Guardian to see the winners profiled and how they managed to perform to a high level in what was the strangest year we have lived through.

Thank you to all who made this years Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards possible and hopefully we will be in a position to return to hosting the Awards Gala Dinner in 2022.
