Pupils in Rang a Tri are delighted to be working in a new classroom.

Exciting times at CBS Primary School

March 15th was a momentous day for schools across the country as they welcomed all pupils back to school for the first time since December 23rd. The day was extra special at CBS Primary School, as not alone was the school welcoming back Third to Sixth Class pupils, but the school also opened its state-of-the-art new classroom for pupils in Rang a Trí.

The new 80sq m classroom looks onto the existing playing pitches and running track and is fully equipped with a flat panel interactive whiteboard, built-in sliding storage, a computer area for student laptops, wi-fi, en-suite toilets, wet area kitchenette and a built in library. It is a terrific classroom catering for all types of learners and it has been designed with the transition to co-education in mind in 2022/’23. The colour scheme chosen for the new area was chosen with consideration for special educational needs pupils as some children have increased sensory responses to various colours. As an all-inclusive school, this element was very important during the design.

Principal, Mr William Greene, wished to thank the staff, parents and Board of Management of CBS Primary School for their co-operation and help during the building project, without which none of this would have been possible. In addition to the new classroom a new Special Education Teacher Room has been added to the school. The new rooms are linked to the existing building via a colorful link corridor which is located at the heart of the school.

The new classroom further adds to the excellent facilities at CBS Primary School. In 2021 our dedicated Computer Room was upgraded and now comes fully equipped with 30 devices for our pupils.

The school also opened a terrific new yard in 2019 with a general play area, hurling, soccer and basketball areas. A beautiful new Sensory Garden has also been opened in the school. CBS Primary School is very lucky to have lots of space in the heart of the town with pupils benefitting from two playing pitches and a running track.

A feasibility study for an all-weather pitch at the school is also being conducted at the moment.

ONSITE CHILDCARE SEPTEMBER 2021

From September 2021 CBS Primary School will also welcome Ladybirds Childcare to the school. Ladybirds is well established in the town, providing an excellent standard of childcare and this will be a terrific addition to the school. Parents will have access to onsite childcare from 7.30am to 6pm daily.

AMBER FLAG FOR POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

In recent months CBS Primary School achieved its first ever Pieta House Amber Flag award which recognises the individual efforts of primary schools to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being. The physical and mental well-being of all pupils in CBS Primary School is very important and the school prides itself on being a Green School, Active School and now an Amber Flag School.

TRANSITION TO CO-EDUCATION

Bishop Fintan Monahan recently announced that CBS Primary School would be transitioning to a co-educational school in 2022/’23, allowing the school to enrol both boys and girls from September 2022. Mr Greene stated: “The school is very excited about the proposed change and we look forward to welcoming both boys and girls into our school for what will no doubt be a very happy, productive and successful time.” Mr Greene also added that the school is looking forward to working with the patron, St Mary’s Junior Boys School and St Mary’s Convent Primary School in the coming months to provide a model of co-education that works for all families within the town.
