Mawdsley on Ireland squad for World Relay Championships
Sharlene Mawdsley has been selected on the Ireland mixed relay squad for the World Relay Championships to be held in Poland next month.
World Athletics has confirmed the invitation of both Ireland's Women's 4x100m team and the Mixed 4x400m to compete at the championships which will take place in Silesia on May 1st & 2nd.
Newport’s Mawdsley, who is trained by Kilcommon native Garry Ryan, is joined on a strong Irish mixed relay squad by Phil Healy, Sophie Becker, Chris O’Donnell, Andrew Mellon and 2016 Olympian Thomas Barr.
A top 8 finish at the World Athletics Relays for either of these squads will guarantee qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
A top 10 finish in the Women's 4x100m or top 12 finish in the Mixed 4x400m at this event would ensure qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA in 2022.
